Welcome back.
Have you ever wonder how we live in this society?
We start our day waking up in the morning and washing our faces in front of a mirror. In my case, the mirror often reflects a horrible face which claims that it wanted to sleep longer…
Anyways, the morning routine is merely a part of a day. The main part of the day is usually occupied by work or school. Some of my readers commute by public transportation, and others may use their private means for going to work or school.
After we finish our activities during daytime, we usually go back home and have a relaxing time watching TV programs, playing games, chatting with family or friends, and reading books and texts.
Now, let’s think of the question – how do we live in this society? Well, maybe it is too vague, so let me introduce another but more simple question – how many people do you encounter everyday? I suppose an answer to this question varies depending on each individual, but I am sure that most of us meet several different people during one day. People you meet do not have to be people you know – even passing by strangers sparks your attention and remind you of the fact that you live among people – hence society. Let me broaden our perspectives. Please imagine items you use everyday, such as clothes, beds, house keys, electricity, and water. How do we get those materials? They have not popped up in front of you – well, they may come out from nothing in the near future but it does not happen in the modern era. They have been made from natural resource, made of human efforts, and have been delivered to us through humans works. So, isn’t society so important for us to have a normal life?
The society can be defined as a group of people sharing the same culture and territory. In the ancient era, people had a gathering and hunting society, where a small group of people which could be up to around 25 to 40 cooperated to gather foods to survive. Then, people developed new technologies to cultivate foods and keeping animals, which allow them to create surplus for food savings. Therefore, the size of a society became larger as humans started agricultural activities. After that, the era of factory arrived as a result of industrial evolution, leading to the formation of a more larger society.
Nowadays, we live in the society of AI, where information plays a crucial role in the society. Although the type of society has changed over time, we still help each other to live. It is definitely difficult to get enough foods by ourselves in the nature, so we tend to depend food production on farmers (thank you!). It is also almost impossible to educate children in each individual households to maintain our society, leading to some people to specialize in teaching. There are countless numbers of speciality around the world, but as we can imagine, we will not be able to survive on the earth without the help of others.
This is why I think the formation of society is one of the most significant development of human beings. Without it, humans could not have dominate the earth, I believe.
I will write about another important innovation made by human beings next time. See you now, and thank you for reading!
